My Journey with Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome

"On the girl's brown legs there were many small white scars. I was thinking, do those scars cover the whole of you, like the stars and the moons on your dress? I thought that would be pretty too, and I ask you right here please to agree with me that a scar is never ugly. That is what the scar makers want us to think. But you and I, we must make an agreement to defy them. We must see all scars as beauty. Okay? This will be our secret. Because take it from me, a scar does not form on the dying. A scar means, I survived."

Physical Therapy Check In

I went to PT yesterday to have my gait video taped for the last time before my surgery. My gait is even still improving from the surgeries on my right hip, which is very good news.

As always, good news comes at a price. Recently my right hip (operative side) has been causing me more discomfort. Since surgery I've had little, if any pain in that hip; but now it's beginning to sublux. (Just to clarify, this is not what was corrected in surgery. My IT band is not snapping over my hip anymore, which was what my biggest problem was) This subluxation that I'm experiencing is my actual hip joint moving out of place.

My PT tested my hip yesterday and confirmed that my pain and discomfort is coming from my hip joint. So this is good news because it means that IT band wise, the surgery is working and holding up; not so good news because my joint is now moving out of place.

There isn't much I can do right now for my right hip until I have surgery on my left side. Of course, I'm going to avoid movements that make me more prone to subluxations, but I can't avoid moving completely. My PT recommend sitting on an exercise ball while I'm at home; watching TV, or just doing homework. This is a simple way to gain core strength and balance, which will provide my hip with more support. I'm going to try it for the next week or so and see if I see any improvements.
